Choti choti baatein

June 13, 2006

Sometimes, some things/events are so small or insignificant at that time that you dont appreciate their beauty.. but later miss them. Here is such a collection, which is getting rarer in Pavan’s life:

  1. Waking up in the morning to the sound of Suprabhatham, to the smell of fresh filter coffee. And when the sun begins to shine in all glory (~6:30 am), have “The Hindu” in your hand (doesnt the last part of the sentence sound like a racial one?)
  2. Traveling in the train on a full moon night.. and watching those spordiac houses with that tubelight or bulb glowing.. pass by.. and you wonder how lonely they are.. whereas I have the company of 72 bogie-mates (though sleeping).. or 72×10 train-mates.. and watching those lush green farms sway to the “kyun chalti hai Pavan”..
  3. Having a sumptous meal at a marriage.. pakka Andhra ishtyle.. on a banana leaf, with the guests seated in a row.. and people serving food from buckets.. the relative forcing you with “one more sweet please”.. and topping all this with a paan.. and an occasional beautiful single girl in Langa-voni..
  4. After dinner night-walks in the locality.. where it is less of a walk and more of a PR stunt.. when right from the building watchman to the roadside kirana store owner enquire about your day and you give them a “Late Night with Pavan” show.. provided that this time, you arent chased by the neighbor’s dog.
  5. Having idly-sambar for breakfast.. those days they were considered as “white tablets” (ref: Venky) which were consumed when you were sick! Now I am ready to fall sick for them.. how sick of me?
  6. Riding your bike when she is just done with servicing at the showroom.. and looks like (better than?) a nayee naveyli dulhan..
  7. The victory and happiness of getting that last movie ticket before it was sold out.. and sitting in the first bench and watching “Family Circus” in the local theatre with your friends.. and a dozen mosquitoes who are hell bent on kissing you everywhere..
  8. Skipping/avoiding a traffic constable who is waiting for a bait, and watching “that look” on his face of having lost a potential 100 rupees.. Once I was so bored that I stopped to show all of my updated papers to see if he would have a reason to catch me.. but I had forgotten my pollution cert. Cost of fun: Rs. 50
  9. Those vegetables buying sessions on Sunday morning with mom..

Just some random stuff that popped into my head.. maybe the coffee was too strong!

Beautiful! This took me on my own nostalgia trip – especially the morning with Tea and TOI (in my case) – and those walks. Life was simpler – and you are right – I long for that idly sambar!

This forces me to remember that some 15 years ago in Bangalore.. I used to wake up to the sound of birds.. sweet and melodious…
But now I wake to the honking sounds of vehicles :-/

Choti Choti baaten bahut mainey rakthen hain…..When i was reading this i could see the images…Now i am longing to go to India….These are really the beautiful small things which found now where other than our India…You must understand the whole of life, not just one little part of it.
That is why you must read, that is why you must look at the skies,
that is why you must sing, and dance, and write poems, and suffer,
and understand, for all that is life……..:)
