holy epic 2.0
January 19, 2008
In the yesteryears, we got our dose of epics told in their grandeur by grandpa/grandma, Ramayana, Mahabharata or Kashee Majilee Kathalu.. those were the best story-telling moments (it beat the Ramananda Sagar version for me).
But how would you explain the current day curious child about Ramayana and Mahabharata, what their gist was, what they signified, etc. To help them understand, here comes the modern day story teller.
Snippet 1 (short episode from Ramayana)
Once upon a time, there was a female called Shoorpanakha who, after seeing a hunk’s myspace page, fell in love with him. This hunk (Sree Rama) was a Forbes billionaire’s son and wasnt interested in her. Shoo (her nickname) later left “wanna frendsheep?” messages on Ram’s orkut scrapbook, spammed his inbox, sent him egreetings, eflowers, ekisses etc. Ram got irritated and on seeing this, his bro Lax (Laxman) thought of playing a prank. He downloaded Shoo’s pic from her profile, photoshopped it by cutting her nose and posted it at various places. She was the laughing stock and this infuriated her bro Ravana (another billionaire who had his own island). Revenge, retaliation etc.
Snippet 2 (How Rama wooed Sita)
There was this royal family whose heiress (Sita) was to be married to the most eligible bachelor. All were presented with a problem: troubleshoot a person’s computer problem. Each bachelor tried his best by asking the user to install various softwares, tweak the config, etc. Then this CompSci graduate (from Stanford) came forward and asked the user to switch-off and then switch the computer on. This worked, and this is how Rama won Sita’s hand.. vaguely that was how it worked.
Kauravas and Pandavas went to Las Vegas for a gambling tournament. Pandavas had a world Poker champ on their side (Shakuni) and hence they easily defeated Pandavas to the verge of bankruptcy. They were driven to homelessness. Rest of the story is how they overcame that and got back what was theirs.
